Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.

I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:

    • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
    • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
    • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
    • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?

Couples: $175 for initial intakes (2) then $150 per 45-50 minute session or $175 for any session that extends to 53 minutes or greater.

Family Addiction Support: $175 for initial intakes (2) then $150 per 45-50 minute session or $175 for any session that extends to 53 minutes or greater.

Is Couples or Family therapy covered by insurance?

Sometimes. Insurance companies pay to treat mental health disorders and require services to be “medically necessary”. Medical necessity requires that health services treat a disease, injury, condition, or illness. In typical couples/family therapy, I am working to save, restore or change the dynamics of relationship(s). When I am seeing a couple or family, I am not treating a mental health disorder, unless the sole focus of treatment is assisting a loved one who is diagnosed with a covered mental health disorder that is impacting your relationship. This would occur when I am treating an individual client for a mental health disorder (including addiction) where insurance has already been authorized, and we bring their partner or family into their therapeutic work for additional support. Alternatively, services can be covered if my couples/family work is done in conjunction with the patient’s outside individual therapist to provide additional support to the relationships in the patients life. In that case, the goal of treatment is to either assist in the patient’s interaction with family members or assist the family members in the management of the patient. At that time, the individual client’s insurance will be accepted.

In all other cases, I strongly suggest that families reach out to their insurance plans and/or benefits administrators to inquire whether “Z Codes” are covered by their plan. Do not ask if couples or family counseling is covered as you may be told that it is – but the plan won’t share that it is only covered in the supportive scenarios described above – insist that they look up Z Codes and determine coverage for that. You may need to have member services transfer you to the claims department as they have more knowledge of covered diagnoses.

I accept checks and all major credit cards as forms of payment.
